The dream of owning a house

Let’s not lie, dreams(set goals) are hard to fulfil, and that is due to the shortcomings we encounter along the way, as well as the fact that we do not really know how our future is designed.

What do I mean by this 'future' talk?

Let us be frank. Most of us set goals and have dreams of becoming a particular kind of person, but along the line, we realise that we were not actually created to be that person or to follow that exact path. This is why religious houses take the subject of discovering one’s vision or purpose in life very seriously. However, this often becomes confusing as well, because identifying one’s true purpose is not always as easy as it is preached by preachers and motivational speakers.

Okay, let me talk about my dream of owning my own house at this stage of my life.

Way back in school, due to constant frustration from landlords whose houses I lived in, my mindset was restructured. I began to look for ways to get my own building and made up my mind never to patronise rent again.

You might want to say this is not a dream because it was birthed out of frustration. But of course, there are many people whose dreams are birthed from the things they face in life.

This dream of mine has remained in my mind. However, one important thing we should understand about dreams is that the environment we find ourselves in plays a major role in determining whether such dreams can come to pass within a stipulated time. The Nigerian environment, with its harsh economy, has had a huge negative influence on this dream. To build a house now, as things stand, one needs to be rich. There is nothing like "if you are determined, you can do it", as we often hear from motivational speakers. In reality, a reasonable amount of money must be sitting in one’s account before building a house can even begin, except maybe it's spiritual house that the person is building and doesn't need fiat. Lol

The dream is still very much intact, but as we speak, I am still patronising house rentals. Sadly, the cost of house rent in Nigerian cities has gone completely out of hand. Still, I cannot say that because I do not want to rent a house while holding on to my dream of building my own, I should go and live in the bush. Mehn, this life is really not balanced at all.

Huhm, of a truth this life no balance.
And that's a good dream to have. I pray it comes to reality despite all.
