Bevor ich beginne – wie ihr seht, ist dies mein erster Wettbewerb von @friendlymoose, bei dem ihr ein Foto eines Flusses oder Sees zeigen könnt. Schaut unbedingt in seinem Beitrag hier vorbei oder auf meinem Profil, wo ich den originalen Beitrag geteilt habe! Der Wettbewerb läuft nur eine Woche – also seid schnell 😉!

After spending one night in Coffsman Cove we head to Lake Helen, before anchoring infront of the lake, we dropped our shrimp pot and our crab pot. As seen in the image there was a another catamaran, very rare to see in Alaska as they aren't ideal for this conditions, and not only was it rare to see catamarans they were Australians, and we were Kiwis or New Zealanders - Neighbors as they say, this just shows how small the world is...Let's get to the fun bit eh?

Lake Helen:

Nach einer Nacht in Coffman Cove ging’s zum Lake Helen. Bevor wir vor dem See ankerten, ließen wir unsere Krabben- und Garnelenkörbe ins Wasser. Wie auf dem Bild zu sehen war, lag dort ein Katamaran – sehr selten in Alaska, da Katamarane für diese Bedingungen nicht ideal sind. Doch nicht nur das: Es waren Australier an Bord, und wir sind Kiwis (Neuseeländer) – Nachbarn, wie man so schön sagt! Die Welt ist eben doch ein Dorf. Aber jetzt zum lustigen Teil, eh?

Is was a very short walk from shore to the lake. Took us about 10 minutes, we did want to have a wonderful sunny spot and our own little place where we could sit down and relax... and we did, in the image you can see a little smoke trail which was our fire. Yes in the image shows that the sun is completely gone but when it was up higher it was the perfect spot to be,

• Once you're too hot, jump into the lake to cool off - too cold, hop back out and you dry so quickly.

Now once the sun goes down thats a whole different story, it gets freezing but we found a solution - start a small fire.

Es war nur ein sehr kurzer Spaziergang vom Ufer zum See – etwa 10 Minuten. Wir wollten einen sonnigen Platz für uns allein, wo wir uns hinsetzen und entspannen konnten... und das fanden wir auch. Auf dem Bild seht ihr eine kleine Rauchfahne – das war unser Lagerfeuer. Zwar ist auf dem Foto die Sonne schon untergegangen, aber als sie noch höher stand, war es der perfekte Spot.

• Wenn dir zu heiß ist, springst du einfach in den See, um abzukühlen – und wenn dir zu kalt wird, kletterst du wieder raus und trocknest super schnell.

Sobald die Sonne untergeht, wird’s allerdings eiskalt. Doch wir fanden eine Lösung: ein kleines Feuer machen!

When the sun did go down, l noticed how calm it was and l knew l'd get some wonderful reflections, while l was flying the drone our fire was dying, so l thought why not fly the drone over the fire and light it up, it worked perfectly! so all those drone users, be sure to take your drone if you're making a fire!

Als die Sonne unterging, bemerkte ich, wie ruhig es geworden war, und ich wusste, dass ich wunderschöne Reflexionen einfangen würde. Während ich die Drohne flog, ging unser Feuer langsam aus. Da dachte ich mir: Warum nicht die Drohne über das Feuer fliegen und es ausleuchten? Es hat perfekt funktioniert! Also an alle Drohnenpiloten da draußen: Nehmt eure Drohne mit, wenn ihr ein Feuer macht!

How l got the shot?

l started with this, but l wasn't satisfied, but l really didn't know how l'd get the entire lake on the drone including a reflection.

Ich habe damit angefangen, aber ich war nicht zufrieden. Ich wusste einfach nicht, wie ich den gesamten See mit der Drohne einfangen sollte – einschließlich der Spiegelung.

With further experimenting, finally l got the shot...

It was difficult to choose between this shot or the lake reflection shot, but as the contest is about a lake or river, l had to follow the rules and go with the one that follows the theme. Es war schwierig, mich zwischen dieser Aufnahme und der See-Spiegelung zu entscheiden, aber da der Wettbewerb einen See oder Fluss zeigen soll, musste ich mich an die Regeln halten und das Bild wählen, das zum Thema passt.
