Olga narrows

Known for the strong currents going up to 11 knots (17 km/h or 11 miles/h), which means timing has to be perfect - we were coming out of Olga Bay, which means we had to wait for the outgoing tide - which was at 6am on that day.

So we thought we'd go around 7am – as we didn't want to have too strong currents when going out; otherwise, you'd have very little control over where you sail because when the current is faster than the speed of the boat you lose control, thus increasing the risks of hitting the banks.

As we approached the narrows, we realized the charts were not accurate, and we still had current against us (4 knots), which meant we were only doing a knot forward (in the right direction).

This taught us one thing - to always ask for local knowledge as tide charts can be off by a few hours.

In the image above we managed to spot a fox which is quite surprising as it seemed to be drinking the water - but unfortunately too far away to capture properly.

We cut the engines off, and took out the drone...

We always motor as a sail boat and sometimes we just went peace and turn off the engines - not only do we get to enjoy the views and peace, we also save diesel.

We only do this when we are not in a rush, when theres wind or when we only do short distances.

We really enjoyed Olga bay, but as sailors we always have to leave a place - its sad but its the normal life as a sailor;(
