Hey Actifitters,
The heat warning started yesterday and indeed it was hot and humid! It wasn't a surprise as we've heard about it for days, but still it wasn't easy to get moving. Even with the deer in the yard across the street calling us, nobody really felt like going outside.
Le Chat did though, but she was just going from spot to spot, and lying there, really avoiding any unnecessary movement.
We used the same tried and tested technique we often use when it's hot: short breaks in the yard. Like I said before, I had plenty to do inside, but outdoor time is important.
To keep Kaia a little cooler, I hosed her with water every time we went outside. This way, we could go to the small forest behind the front yard a few times without her overheating. She was ready for exploration.
But we never went very far inside the forest. On top of the heat, mosquitoes were also a problem. Every time we came back, Le Chat was there to greet us and explore with her sister.
Once we even tried a longer walk in the neighborhood, but some areas were really exposed to the sun, and I was worried about Kaia burning her paws on the pavement.
Later in the afternoon, I opted for my go-to activity when it's too hot: cycling. As usual, no plan, just went with the flow. I rediscovered some nice places I had forgotten about, like this little park where several people were walking their dogs.
Or this condo subdivision where I am sure I already got lost in the past. I remembered this pond in the middle.
When I finally found some more familiar streets, I thought I was a bit late for the sunset.
But I found a spot from the bridge over the freeway that was perfect.
The freeway isn't very glamorous of course, but that big ball of fire just looks so great!
When I made it to another great spot, the sun was already behind the trees.
But I still had time to follow my favorite detour to ride back home. Some nice views on the way too.
Well, in spite of the heat, I managed to stay quite active and I even completed a few chores inside. Besides swimming, there's really nothing better than biking to handle the heat better. Possibly we'll do that again on Sunday, we'll see.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
