In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is This Love from the iconic group Maroon 5.
California Dreamin' - The Mamas & The Papas
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is California Dreamin' from the band The Mamas & The Papas
Today, I'm going to bring you a song that has transcended its era and become very famous throughout the world. In my case, I've heard it several times in different audiovisual works from a few years ago, one example being that it forms part of the soundtrack of the iconic film Forrest Gump. Beyond that, it has also been covered for different shows, series, and movies that have appeared on television.
I heard this song again recently, after a few years of hearing it on an Argentine radio station. It was all thanks to one of the platforms I use most since I've had access to a computer: Spotify. A few years ago, this music platform implemented a tool that is great for discovering new music.
It works as follows: you enter a playlist you have created, and it compares each song to determine what type of music and genre each one is. Based on all that information, it reaches a conclusion and recommends about ten songs for you to add to that list. It wasn't as effective before, but over the years, I can swear that most of the recommendations it makes tend to hit the mark.
So a few days ago, I took the opportunity to listen to one of my favorite playlists, which includes classics from the 1950s to the 1980s. Some examples of these songs include Burning Love by Elvis Presley, My Way by Frank Sinatra, What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, Da Ya Think I'm Sexy by Rod Stewart, and even Thriller by Michael Jackson. With that combination of music, I rediscovered California Dreamin', a song I had heard a few times but had completely forgotten about, and which I ended up really liking.
The Mamas & The Papas is an iconic American Sunshine Pop group, a well-known genre from the 1960s. It was formed in 1965 and consisted of guitarist John Phillips, vocalist Michele Phillips, vocalist Denny Doherty, and vocalist Cass Elliot.
They released their first single the same year they formed, calling it Go Where You Wanna Go. It wasn't a huge commercial success, but it helped them lay the groundwork. However, their second single, California Dreamin', became the biggest hit of The Mamas & The Papas' entire career.
