Good evening everyone!
In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is The Lucky One of the american artist Laura Branigan.
Light Up: Koven
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Light Up of the duo Koven.
A few years ago, when I used to play soccer at the club, I would meet up with a friend at his house after practice.
My friend had bought a game that had recently become popular due to its unique gameplay. I'm talking about Rocket League, a game that is still relevant even though it was released almost 10 years ago. From that moment on, I loved the game so much that I spent $20 to buy it so I could play it with my friend (the game wasn't free yet, as it is now since Epic Games bought it).
One of the things I can highlight about Rocket League is that the music played in its menu, loading screen, and matches fits quite well with the game's static nature, mixing genres such as electronic, pop, and perhaps a little alternative rock. A duo I discovered thanks to this game was one called Koven. I remember it was the start of a new season and, as always, they updated the songs for it. The song that really caught my attention that season was Gold by Koven. I loved the song so much that I can assure you that for weeks I did nothing but listen to it all the time.
A few years later, I continued playing Rocket League, and it seemed that the Psyonix team loved Koven's songs because they were usually the main songs of the season. That's how I discovered my choice for today: Light Up.
Koven is a drum and bass (electronic music) duo consisting of vocalist Katie Boyle and producer Max Rowat. The band was founded in 2011, but it took several years for them to gain international popularity.
Worldwide success would finally come in 2020 with the release of Butterfly Effect. This album included several songs that were part of the soundtrack for that year's Rocket League season, which brought them considerable global recognition and made them one of the most important duos in their genre.
Months after the release of Butterfly Effect, a sort of extension of the album was made, which included several songs such as today's selection, Light Up. This song also appeared on the home screen of the Rocket League game.
