In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Party And Bullshit of the american artist The Notorious B.I.G.
Roxanne: The Police
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Roxane from the rock group The Police.
For today's occasion, I wanted to change things up a bit from what I've been doing in recent editions. I usually listen to various genres of music, but I tend to focus on genres such as Spanish rock, country, hip-hop, pop from the 70s to the 90s, and maybe the occasional cumbia or Argentine quartet. But for this occasion, we're going to delve into international rock, which I don't listen to as much, but there are some bands that I really like.
Since childhood, I grew up with a lot of rock, both national and international, thanks to the influence of my mother, who experienced the heyday of the genre during her youth. So, from time to time, out of nostalgia and because she liked it, she used to play songs by the bands she liked at the time on the speakers at home. One of the bands that appeared most often on that playlist was a group called The Police.
Honestly, until a few weeks ago, I had no idea what songs The Police had made. I ended up finding out while searching for new songs on Spotify, using the recommendation tool that the platform offers in each playlist. In this case, I was exploring a list of songs from the 80s and 90s, and there was a suggestion for the song Roxanne by this band. The truth is that it brought back a lot of nostalgia for my childhood, and I didn't hesitate to add it to my Favorites list on Spotify.
The Police is a British band formed in 1977 by bassist and vocalist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers, and drummer Stewart Copeland. Their first album was released a year after their formation and was a worldwide success.
Outlandos d'Amour included several of the band's most famous songs, such as Can't Stand Losing You, So Lonely, and Roxanne. The latter is the band's best-known song and was censored by several radio stations in the United Kingdom because it mentioned topics such as prostitution.
