This is my post for #freewriters 2795 prompt frown on a clown hosted by @mariannewest
Not only has fishing been a hard way of life, it is also one of the most frustrating ways of making a living that there is. You can work your tail off all day and not catch anything, and want to quit. But something inside you tells you to keep going until you make a paycheck, and then you have "that day" when you have a good catch, and it hooks you to going back the next day. Maybe you'll catch again, but most of the time, you'll catch just enough to keep you going. It is enough to put a frown on a clown.
As I see it, fishermen are like clowns with frowns, they both have a screw loose.
my husband when he used to castnet
I am not sure what it is that makes us want to work the hours we work for the pay we get, the hours we spend working on equipment without being paid, and being blamed for every environmental problem with the river. Not to forget about how hard it is on our bodies and being in the sun all day. There are many jobs that pay more, are easier on the body, and less work, but we are fishermen??
My husband just got home. He fished Long Point and caught three little trout, his mood is back. How soon he forgets he had two good days, which nowadays is a rare thing.
Maybe we do it because of moments like this. Even though this would not have happened if he did not go fishing, but we won't go there.
My husband said he was on the east shore in Grant, there was not a breath of wind on the river. He was ready to move to a new fishing spot when he saw a ripple going across the water. He made it out to be a lizard. He knew it had to have come from his boat. He lifted his anchor and used his trolling motor to pull up to it. He said by then its head and tail were all that was out of the water, his body was sunk. He reached down to grab it and it jumped onto his hand and ran up his arm and sat on his shoulder. He said it sat there until he reached with his other hand and took it down. He said it stayed on the boat after that.
