This is my post for #freewriters 2989 prompt gradient hosted by @mariannewest
Back in 2009, my two sisters and I, who live in Florida, flew to Pennsylvania to visit the other two sisters. While there, we all drove to the town called Jim Thorpe. One of the sisters husband is a truck driver and was very concerned about our drive to this town because of the roads steep gradient. He lectured us on not riding the brake as we went down to the town.
I am not sure which road we took, but I remember my sister's husband saying it had a 13% gradient. He told us that on the steepest parts, watch for roads that run off the side of main roads, they are for you to take if the brakes fail. If I can remember right, they had an incline to them.

On the way down, we saw something odd in the woods, and on our way back, we stopped on the side of the road and walked into the woods. It was the coolest thing I had seen. I liked seeing this a lot better than anything I saw in the town. The history was interesting, and I loved the old buildings, but for the most part, the town is a tourist trap.

I have always wondered who was behind these sculptures.

I would have loved to spend more time walking the woods to see what else we could find, but the uppity sister sat in the van, screaming for us to get out of there. I saw it as art, she saw it as satanic.

These things were maybe 500 yards back in the woods, we only got a glimpse of something as we drove by. There were no houses nearby.

If I ever get the chance to go back to Pennsylvania, I will make sure I go back here and do more exploring.
