Ella es una persona que llega a ser cantante gracias a su padre, esto en principio es bueno pero ya verán como luego las cosas se complican cuando el que fue quien la enseñó le deja esa herencia musical. Even before she was born, Betty's destiny was already written: she would be a singer when she grew up. Her mother was married to a famous musician. At home, they always talked about music, about how wonderful it was to be a singer, and almost every conversation revolved around the successes they were achieving each day. So, when Betty was born, it wasn't surprising that she showed an interest in music; it was practically all anyone talked about. Even as a little girl, she could play the violin and sing. Her father had taught her both.

They developed a very close relationship, as her father, Gerard, wanted her to be a great singer and follow in his footsteps, and she wanted to emulate him. Since they both wanted the same thing, it wasn't surprising that they loved each other very much and supported one another. At just nine years old, her father was already taking her with him to the stage. She would play the violin and he would sing, and sometimes the other way around—he would play so she could sing. The fans loved them dearly; they thought she would follow in his footsteps and go as far as he had.

Ambas cosas se las había enseñado su padre.

Ellos crearon una relación muy cercana, pues Gerard su padre quería que ella fuera un a gran cantante y que siguiera sus pasos y ella quería imitarlo. Como ambos deseaban lo mismo no fue extraño que se quisieran mucho y se apoyaran el uno al otro. Con tan solo 9 años ya su padre la llevaba con él a los escenarios. Ella tocaba el violín y el cantaba, y a veces al contrario el tocaba para que ella cantara. Los fans los querían muchísimo, pensaban que ella seguiría sus pasos y llegarían tan lejos como él.

They played together more or less until she turned 27. She was practically an expert at what she did, and there was nothing left to teach her. But that was the last year they played together; her father became seriously ill and could no longer be on stage. He couldn't move. This was a huge change for her because it was the first time she hadn't played by his side. He had directed everything up until then—how they played, what they sang, and more. But without him directing, it was up to her to decide everything. It was the first time she started to ask herself something: Do I follow in my father's footsteps or forge my own path?

It wasn't easy deciding which direction to take. On the one hand, she had a life established with her father; she already had her fans, and they considered her an extension of him. On the other hand, she also wanted to forge her own path and explore new things, even though she knew perfectly well that this path was uncertain and very risky. If anyone felt she had betrayed her roots as Gerard's accompanist, they would stop following her.

Tocaron juntos más o menos hasta que ella cumplió los 27. Prácticamente ella ya era experta en lo que hacia y no había nada más que enseñarle. Pero ese fue el ultimo año que tocaron juntos, su padre enfermó gravemente y ya no podía estar en los escenarios. No podía no moverse. No era fácil decidir qué dirección tomar, por un lado tenía su vida hecha junto a su padre, ya tenía a sus fans, y ellos la consideraban una extensión de el mismo. Y por el otro ella misma también quería crear su camino y explorar cosas nuevas, aunque sabia perfectamente que ese camino era inseguro y muy arriesgado. Si alguien consideraba que había traicionado sus raíces como acompañante de Gerard pues la dejarían de seguir.

She spoke with her father to get his opinion. He told her he wasn't the one who controlled her musical life. He advised her to follow her heart and choose what she loved most. Fans come and go, but life is short. With that response, she knew more clearly that she had to forge her own path, but in a way that wouldn't betray or abandon her parents' fans, since she was their direct successor. She began her journey by very slowly changing her approach. She stopped singing the way she always had to explore new things. By taking it slow and still doing many of the things she did with her father, people continued to love her.

Ella lo habló con su padre para ver cual era su opinión al respecto. El le dijo que el no era el dueño de su vida musical. Le recomendó que siguiera a su corazón y eligiera lo que más le gustaría. Los fans van y vienen pero la vida es una. Con esa respuesta lo tuvo más claro debía crear su propio camino, pero hacerlo de tal forma que los fans de sus padres no se sintieran traicionados o abandonados, ya que ella era su continuidad directa. Empezó su camino al ir cambiando muy lento el enfoque. Dejó de cantar como siempre lo había hecho para explorar cosas nuevas. Al hacerlo lento y haciendo aún muchas cosas de las que hacía con su padre la gente la siguió queriendo mucho.

The most difficult part was reaching a point of no return, when many expected her to play the classic songs she had performed with her father. It was then that breaking with her past work became the hardest. She had to let go of those fans to move forward; many only listened to Gerard's music and no longer heard her new work. Betty felt in her heart that she was betraying them, but it was necessary if she wanted to forge her own path, so she let them go. Over time, she gained more fans, new ones. They came for who she was now, not for who she had been before. There was no going back; the new path had begun. Despite everything, Betty will never stop being grateful for the years she spent with her father; he was the one who gave her everything she has today.

Lo más complicado fue cuando llegó un punto de no retorno, donde muchos esperaban que tocara lo más clásico que tocaba con su padre. Fue ahí donde le costó más romper con lo que hacía antes.
