An Eco-friendly environment

The need to save our planet has become very essential. This should begin from home, from neighbourhood. Learning to put a waste directly into the bin from a very young age, can bring in many differences among a growing child, to keep our environment clean.

This ginger plant is covered with dry leaves manure

I have a big garden surrounded by tall trees. So you can imagine the amount of leaves falling especially during the autumn season. Initially we used to burn them after piling them in a corner of the compound wall. But now, we use it as a very good manure for our coconut trees, Mango trees and Banana plants. It is a very good manure to grow ginger and turmeric. It is my own personal experience.

Talking about plastics. Kudos to our state government who initiated the idea of taking away plastics from each household with a nomial fee of Rs.50.00. The people appointed are from the panchayat and monthly once they come to our home to collect these plastics.

My son being a member of UNICEF has warned us against discarding plastic bottles or covers in the surrounding areas. I still remember how he stopped me from throwing away plastic bottles from train (through the window). As he attended several seminars on environmental conclave he spreads awareness regarding environment destruction across the public.

Another initiative by our government was to use electricity for heavy equipments like heater, mixie, washing machine, fridge etc... between 6.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. after which a nominal increase of price for each unit was accountable by the user.

While coming to the pollution part, many among us has stopped using bicycle which was once the only medium of travel. Now-a-days, we can find two or three cars in each house increasing pollution, at free of cost, wherein the hospital sector has dominated the business market. All these could find an end result only if we think nit once but twice.

Very recently, I saw a short news saying the government is paying for those using cycle. Though I haven't got a full idea of what exactly it is, I appreciate this drive by our government.

This definitely will prove eco-friendly travel more friendly and fruitful, getting to know nature more closer than we think. And an inner drive to save our planet personally.

Most of our nearby shops, has stopped using plastic covers for packing itemsand instead switched on to eco-friendly bags. This shows a slow but steady change in thus ecosystem.

Hope I have forwarded quite a few of my personal experiences to improvise our environment for a better tomorrow.

Thankyou dear friends for your time and patience in going through my article.
