Esta semana terminé de leer el libro: "Burlar al diablo" (Outwitting the Devil), de Napoleon Hill, una obra que me ha parecido particularmente interesante.
Hill lo escribió en 1938, justo un año después de haber publicado su obra más famosa: "Piense y hágase rico". Sin embargo, por ser un texto muy controvertido para la época, no salió a la luz hasta junio de 2011, más de 70 años después.
Y estoy segura de que aún causa revuelo. En lo personal, me hizo cuestionar casi todo lo que conozco y a mí misma.
Pero no vengo a hacer una reseña del libro, creo que no soy muy buena para eso.
This week I finished reading the book Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill, a work I found particularly interesting.
Hill wrote it in 1938, just one year after publishing his most famous work, Think and Grow Rich. However, because it was a very controversial text for its time, it wasn’t published until June 2011, more than 70 years later.
And I’m sure it still causes a stir. Personally, it made me question almost everything I know—and myself.
But I’m not here to review the book; I don’t think I’m very good at that.

The thing is, I liked it so much that I decided to read it again—but this time, with my children.
I think that perhaps the knowledge contained in those lines might help them break down some of their preconceptions and effectively prepare their minds for a fulfilling life experience.
I wish my mindset had been different—free from unnecessary fears, unburdened by external control, and fully aware of the power I possess.
I know I can still benefit from that information, so I’ll reread it as many times as necessary.

Por otra parte, me encanta la idea de compartir con ellos ese rato en el que, además de leer, exponemos nuestros puntos de vista, lo que cada uno entendió del capítulo.
Aunque no es algo que ellos estén haciendo de muy bien gusto por ahora, sé que en un futuro me recordarán por esos momentos de conexión.

On the other hand, I love the idea of spending that time with them—a time when, in addition to reading, we share our perspectives and what each of us took away from the chapter.
Although it’s not something they’re particularly enthusiastic about right now, I know that in the future they’ll remember me for those moments of connection.
Every moment we can spend away from all the trivial distractions of this world, I consider a win.
El aprendizaje más básico, y a la vez valioso, que me llevo de esa primera ojeada que le di a esta obra, es que ir a la deriva y el miedo, son las principales formas en las que somos controlados.
En contraparte, tener un propósito definido e ir tras él, sin que nadie nos detenga, nos hace tan fuertes que nadie puede influenciarnos.
Pero debo decir, que es que en el texto encontraremos mucho más sobre lo que pensar y eso me gusta.
The most basic—and at the same time most valuable—lesson I took away from that first glance I took at this work is that drifting aimlessly and fear are the main ways in which we are controlled.
On the other hand, having a clear purpose and pursuing it, without anyone stopping us, makes us so strong that no one can influence us.
But I must say that there is much more in the text to think about, and I like that.
