‎Waiting on the Rain, Working on the Dream

in Homesteading11 days ago

‎Hi Hive,

‎Last week, I shared update about me going deep into farming this year and I have to travelled back to my village to secured a space for my farming weeks ago. I couldn't get to start my farming right away due to delay in rain. So I have to travelled back to my base. But I'm back there again but still waiting for it to rain. But while waiting, there are some activities still going on...

‎Today on the farm was one of those days that may not look huge from the outside, but it means everything deep down. The kind of day where progress is not loud, but it is steady and very real.

‎Right now, I’m in that waiting phase for the rain to come so I can finally sow my maize seeds loke I said earlier. Every farmer understands this feeling that the sky becomes your partner, and sometimes, your greatest uncertainty and fear. You look up more often than usual, hoping for those clouds to gather and break. But while waiting, I refuse to stay idle.

‎Originally, my plan was to make ridges across the land before planting so that the crop can yield properly. But reality sometimes forces you to adjust. I’m not financially buoyant enough to carry out that plan at this moment. And instead of letting that stop me, I’ve chosen to adapt and plants my maize like that. Though I will still have to get rid of those weed immediately after planting.

‎So today, I focused on what I can do now.

‎I spent hours on the land clearing out the remnants of the previous millet plants. It’s not the easiest job bending, pulling, gathering, and moving under the sun but it’s necessary work. Every dry stalk I removed is a step closer to fresh planting. I gathered the remnants into piles, preparing them for burning, which will help clear the land properly and help return some nutrients back to the soil.

‎As I was working, I kept reminding myself that farming is patience in action. And not every day will be about planting or harvesting. But some days are simply about preparation, laying the groundwork for what is yet to come. And today was one of those days.

‎The work is still halfway done and I won’t pretend I finished everything. The land still has more to give, and I still have more effort to put into it. But there’s a quiet satisfaction in knowing that progress has been made. The kind of satisfaction that doesn’t shout but calmly sits in your chest.

‎The vision is what keeps me going and I can already imagine the maize growing tall and green across that same land I worked on today. I can picture the harvest season, the reward of consistency, and the story behind every grain.

‎For now, I continue with the preparation, step by step, and trusting that the rain will come at the right time.

‎And when it does, I’ll be fully ready.

‎I’ll keep sharing updates as the journey unfolds. Thanks 😍
