Studying the scriptures is a doctrinal directive from our Lord Jesus Christ. We must study till we are approved. We must study so that we will observe to do everything that is written in it. We must study so that the devil will not have an advantage over us. We must study so that we can understand what the mind of God is for us. So, there are numerous reasons why we should study the scriptures. We should not neglect the daily reflections on the word of God. The word of God is our light. If we walk without taking our light with us, it is evident that we will stumble. We cannot be too sure of our lives.
The Bible is not a storybook. We are not reading it to become entertained or to soothe our minds and emotions. We read the Bible because it is the voice of the Creator. This is the one who owns the heavens and the earth talking to us. We are not reading it under compulsion. No, we read it because we enjoy hearing His voice.
The Bible is not a piece of news. So we are not reading to receive some historical news or events. The Bible is the word of life. What ever we are learning from the word of God is life. Jesus Christ told us that the word of God is Life. So, reading the Bible should not be by compulsion but we should read it because we understand that it is our bread of life. The word that we are reading are refining our life and making us more productive unto God.
