One of my best memories is my dad teaching me chess. I still have that chess set. Don’t we all call it chest when we are little?
I have taught mine the game but rarely play with them. A shame really but hopefully the time spent has prepared them with the skills to enjoy it for the rest of their life and pass it on.
'chest'? hehe. probably a nice joke for EN native speakers, but for Russians its definetely not the case. the game's name sounds in Russian like 'shakhmaty' 😜 I stopped playing with my daughter after 8-10 years, cause, huh, I am not a superb strong player myself and just cannot teach her. At least I put this seed into a fruitful soil, and lets see what will grow on! ps. it truly depends on random and socium - if she happen to have friends who are obsessed with it too, this may boost this slight intrest into fire and real passion.
