It has been a while since I last posted. I’ve been following this community for ages. I’ve even almost written a post a few times. Today, I’ve finally plucked up the courage, and I’m sharing some news with you.

A week ago, my husband and I returned from a long-awaited holiday in Spain. Before that, he had been away on a military deployment for six months, and when he came back, there had been some changes in his life. Even more changes lay ahead. He had put off making that decision until after he returned from holiday. But the changes in my life came sooner. We were on our way to Toledo when my manager texted me saying there was an important conversation to have. I called him back straight away, as the tone of the message didn’t bode well. Sure enough, they had decided to let me go. Incidentally, him too, and a few other staff members as well.

Well, shit happens. I knew it would happen sooner or later, but it was still painful news. My husband’s military pay isn’t enough to support the two of us. On top of that, we have two mothers who constantly need financial help. Equally unpleasant was the way the company chose to inform us of the contract termination – via a letter sent through the Zoho People HRMS system. This is despite the fact that there are very few people in the company’s Ukrainian office – fewer than 30.

So, my last day at work will be 13 May. Just a few days before my birthday, which will be just as gloomy as my holiday. Or not... 🤔

I have mixed feelings about leaving. Part of me feels a great sense of relief at the thought that I will no longer be working in this toxic, male-dominated environment. All this time, because of the war, I lacked the courage to leave on my own. Now I am free! Another part of me thinks that now a potential employer has experience on one side of the scales and my age (50+) on the other. Which will tip the balance? I don’t know. I feel tired, sad, but also excited. Maybe I should change careers? Try something completely different? There are so many thoughts running through my head.

I don’t know if I can afford to take a break or a tiny pause, or start preparing for interviews. Meanwhile, I will definitely have more time for Hive. Wish me good luck, and stay tuned for more news. As my favourite character from the series "The Marvelous Mrs Maisel" says – "Tits up!"

I'm very sorry this happened. It can't be easy to deal with. I hope you find something you enjoy doing! We loved The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Hope so too. This is the first time in my life that I’m leaving a job without having another contract lined up. I hope it all works out eventually. I appreciate your support 💛

We loved The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Glad to know. I really enjoyed this TV Series.

You're welcome! During times like these it's so important to view it as a new start or an opportunity for something better. It's sometimes difficult not to let fear creep in. You write so well, have you considered freelancing?

The actress did such a wonderful job in that series. I was shocked to hear it was based on the life of Joan Rivers.

There is currently no work for freelancers in Ukraine. But you reminded me an important thing - to think of the situation as of opportunity. This is a good point.

I have never heard of Joan Rivers. But I googled and the Series very much looks like her life story.

That's too bad. Freelancing is pretty tough to make a living at these days anyway. It always helps me to try to psychologically reframe things like that (opportunity instead of fear). It makes me feel like I'm reclaiming my power in a sense. Joan was pretty popular here in America for a few decades (60's - 90's).

Sorry to hear about this bad news for you. We don't have to know people to feel how their situation would. make us fel and empathize with them. I hope some good comes of this, perhaps another contract, higher pay and hopefully more interestng work. Hopefully when one door closes, another one opens.

Thank you for your kind word.

Great to see you back, and both looking so well and healthy. When one door closes another opens, hang in there stay confident and go with your gut feelings. Life is too short.

Agree. Let's see how it turns out 🤞

yup, good luck

You'll succeed, no matter what you do!

Thank you, dear ❤️

Really sorry to hear that Zirochka but some times you need a little push to get out of a rut for things to improve. Good luck finding something else I’m sure with your talents and motivation you won’t be down for long.

Slava Ukraini

I agree about a little push. Hope the searching won't last long. Thank you!

Sorry to hear that you've been let go, but this can always be a great opportunity to find something even more exciting. Take a little time off and find something you might even like better than the previous job. I wish you a lot of luck in looking.

In my experience from my jobs in the past I have always found an even better Job after I quite or been let go. So see it as an opportunity to find something great!

I very much appreciate your encouragement words. The closer the last day gets, the more anxious I feel 😬😬😬

Wow, that is so hard to lose a job and security, even if you don't want to be there. I hope that you find something very soon and enjoy the time in between, if you can. It sounds like you have a great mind set and hope it goes well. I also just posted for the first time in a while, so I will be looking forward to more of your posts!

Great to see you are back too! I have to check your post 🙂

Dear @zirochka, sorry to hear about the lay-off. Please take a look at the Careers page on Sumsub's website and let me know (here or via LinkedIn messenger) if any of them caught your interest. I'll be happy to refer you. We have many Ukrainians (and other nationalities) working in this company and the culture is great. 💕

Thanks for the good advice. I will definitely take a look!

I’m really sorry you’ve lost your job, but I’m also glad you’re out of a toxic situation. You deserve a place where you feel respected and supported. Good luck in your new adventure.

Than you, dear @ellenripley ❤️

Sometimes an apparent step back opens the door for a few steps forward! Hope you get a dream job soon enough... and given all you have been through, a little break probably won't hurt. 😉 All the best!

I’m really sorry you had to go through that. It must be tough to handle. Wishing you find something that brings you joy again.

Thank you

It's good to see you posting again! I've had some long gaps between posts, too. Life just gets too crazy sometimes to stop and write anything. I wish you the best as you seek the next employment. Change can be disturbing, but sometimes it's for the best. It sounds as if you weren't too happy in your current/nearly over job, anyway. Hope your husband gets things sorted out, too.

Well, shit happens everywhere, let alone in Ukraine, so not good, but what can you do? As you said, it's good and bad. All you can do is look forward to starting a new chapter of your life. Fingers crossed for you to find another job, a better one.

I am really thankful for your words of support. This is what I need now.
