Putting the little town to the test.
Welcome to this guest author’s edition. Today, I’ll be focusing on the importance of emergency drills in the oil-rich heart of the state of Monarca, in the town of Punta de Mata.
- A morning unlike any other, where chaos was in full swing.
Yesterday, the town’s usual rhythm was interrupted by a drill that almost turned into a real emergency.
The sound of the siren marked the start of the drill—an emergency response exercise that mobilized the security team, industry workers, and the community—serving as a vital reminder that prevention is our best tool against the unexpected, since it’s always best to be prepared.
Let me explain exactly what happened;
The main reason for conducting this activity is to assess the response capacity to any emergency situation, such as a fire or a gas leak, among other incidents that may occur at the Punta Divisional facilities. This exercise involved the active participation of the following agencies and organizations:
- Civil Protection and Disaster Management.
- Monagas Fire Department and Oil Industry Firefighters.
- PDVSA Emergency Brigades.
- Public safety agencies.
The main objective is to measure response times, the effectiveness of routes, and the coordination of these efforts.
Events like these are unsettling, but they also strengthen us and prompt citizens to reflect and become aware of the constant activity taking place around us.
They also make emergency response times much more precise, as well as the coordination among the agencies involved.
It is our duty to take these types of measures seriously.
