It's time for Literary Game No. 8.
But first: Let's announce the winner of Literary Game No. 6. Titled "It's All In the Cards", Literary Game No. 6 had three entrants. Here they are in order of submission:
- What the Rabbits Said by @reportercee
- The King of Diamonds by @lailawrites
- Dave Jones Homecoming by @alonicus
The task was to draw four cards from a standard 52-deck of cards. Each card in the deck was associated with a particular phrase. Game contestants were to write a story from the four phrases associated with the cards they drew. All of the stories were good, so this was hard to judge. And it was very close. But the winner is ...
drumroll ...
Dave Jones Homecoming by @alonicus

- They found the note tucked inside a shoe, written in a language no one remembered learning.

Ruined Beauty by @beckyroyal
Sample paragraph:
She knew she was beautiful but she didn't care. She was only concerned with spreading the aroma of joy through her flowers. Her shop in the busy street of Duke town was always crowded. Customers came to buy and stare at her beautiful face.
The Huntress by @alonicus
Sample paragraph:
For a day and a night the woman stalked through the city. Her cold, relentless eyes moved constantly. Eyes that were focused on a purpose; hateful eyes. Though she was clearly looking for something or someone, she didn't ask anyone anything, and none was brave enough to approach her.
The House That Caught Rain by @lailawrites
Sample paragraph:
They found Nikolai's sister living two towns away. Irina Vetra answered the door but said nothing. Just looked at them with black eyes and stepped aside so they could come in.

And now, let's introduce Literary Game No. 8.
Literary Game No. 8: One Paragraph to Rule Them All
This week's literary game involves writing a complete story (with a beginning, a middle, and an end) in one paragraph. The paragraph should be no fewer than three sentences (of any length) and no longer than five. You can write your sentences with a minimalist style akin to Ernest Hemingway or Raymond Carver or go for something more complex like Henry James or William Faulkner. Either way, your story should have a true opening, a climax, and a satisfying ending.
Now for the rules:

- Write a complete story in only one paragraph. Publish it to your Hive blog using any frontend.
- Tag your story #literarygames.
