We had an in person group meeting at work, and I took the opportunity to get our car serviced at the dealership. We have a maintenance contract for oil changes, but our front breaks started to make some really loud, high-frequency noise.
Even my visual inspection of the breaks basically told me that there were no break pads left and we needed new ones. That was confirmed at the dealership, and we got them replaced.
So in the morning, I drove to Seattle. The traffic was bad as usual, but after about an hour of fighting traffic, I finally got to the dealership and dropped off the car.
My meeting was still around forty minutes away, so I took a leisurely stroll through the streets of Seattle and took some pictures along the way.
There were lots of closed businesses from the Covid times. Some have reopened, but many are still permanently shot.
The dealership is in the south part of downtown Seattle, and it is practically on the border with Chinatown.
At around nine in the morning, many businesses were still closed.
Seattle used to be a very clean city, which I would especially notice after coming back from Manhattan. But these days it is a bit different.
Homeless tents and trash are pretty much everywhere.
It is still a beautiful city, but it is not like it used to be...
As I exited Chinatown, I was walking past Union Station, and there were a lot more people in this area.
I also noticed a heavy police presence in the area.
I guess they are really trying to make downtown Seattle safer and bring more people into it. With all the homeless and drugs on the streets, I am not sure that is really feasible...
I have walked the familiar streets remembering how I used to come there four days a week for years.
Things have changed, but they also stayed pretty much the same. Though some of my favorite restaurants like the Pirozky on the Third are boarded up and no longer there...
Right before covid, I had dined there with my wife. There were other places where we visited that are still around, like the original location of Vonns 1000 Spirits.
We first discovered that restaurant when we visited Seattle Symphony, and that was the closest restaurant to it.
We walked in without a lot of expectations and were pleasantly surprised with their from scratch sourdough pizza, burgers, and made in house pasta dishes.
The drinks are great there as well. We then noticed that they opened a new restaurant close to our home, so going over to Seattle is no longer necessary to enjoy this place.
I also took advantage of this trip downtown to work out in our gym in the building. The machines that they have there hit the muscles in a different way than freeweights that I have at home.
I did a full hour of weight lifting on my lunch break. And I managed to eat a quick lunch my wife made for me.
After a whole day of meetings, I stopped by a Georgian restaurant and picked up us some boats.
Then, I had a distinct pleasure of driving back home in the rush hour traffic.
Today is the last day in Splinterlands season. I am looking forward to getting lots of Glint tokens tomorrow.
