First Day in the Office After Maui Vacation

in Actifit13 days ago

Today was my first day back in office after our Maui vacation. It was a busy and unproductive day, though I did manage to do a lunch time workout which is always nice.

I also got a really good number of steps as is always the case when I work in Seattle since I park my car quite a bit away from the train station and when I get to Seattle it is also a little bit of a walk, about ten minutes of brisk walking each way.

As you can see from the picture above gas in Seattle area didn't have a chance to react to lower oil prices that came about due to the Iran cease fire. Though when I compare these prices to the prices in Maui they seem cheap.

The cease fire came really unexpectedly as just before that Trump was saying that he is going to obliterate the Iran civilization. Both sides seem to be claiming a victory and there doesn't seem to be a clear agreement. So the war might resume after two weeks...

Bitcoin definitely had a good pump on these news. Not sure it will stay above seventy thousand mark. It seems to be already backing off the highs.

Other crypto coins had even higher pumps than bitcoin, Fartcoin had over ten percent pump earlier and now is down more than ten percent.

While in Hawaii I was eating some really tasty food in the restaurants and even poke from the Napili Market was amazing. For almost a full week I ate just seafood and fruit and only on our last full day I had a burger at the Monkey Pod by Merriman.

Despite eating healthy food and lots of walking and swimming I still gained about four pounds during our vacation, so getting a good number of steps combined with a forty minutes of calisthenics and only one meal today was a good day to start getting back into shape.

Tomorrow is back to the office so should get a good number of steps as well as a weight lifting workout at the free gym in our building. Since they are bringing everyone back to the office there are a lot more people in the gym now.

Since it is a smaller gym it creates challenges with machine availability, I should find a time outside of lunch time to get to the gym. Will try to go maybe early tomorrow.

It is also tax time, so I should finish those this weekend. I am also doing taxes for our son, so that is more stuff to do. Thankfully his taxes are a lot less complicated and are mainly W2 and interest and dividends.

But we are still collecting all of his forms and might make a best estimate and file for an extension for him to make sure we didn't miss anything and to give him time to locate all the forms. He is missing his University of Washington form, which is worth up to two thousand dollars in lifetime learning credit.

Splinterlands has been making a lot of changes recently, there are new cards in the voucher shop and I believe that it is the first time when there are multiple cards available three to be exact.

The season is also more than half way over so the battles are becoming easier and ratings are going up which results in higher SPS earnings. SPS is flirting with all time lows and I recently saw it less than ten percent above all time lows.

This is a great time to accumulate SPS though...

I started buying some DEC and SPS recently again. The former for new cards, the latter for stacking.

Sounds like you enjoyed your vacation! And those extra pounds will drop quickly again...

Yes, it was a great vacation, too bad it is over :) And yes, I am working on dropping those pounds right now...

Wow, it looks gorgeous there! I've never been to Hawaii but would like to experience it someday. My brother and his family were just in Kona and flew back yesterday. The food sounds incredible.

The food is incredible! And you should definitely visit Hawaii. I have been to Kona, but Maui is by far my favorite island and now is a great time to visit because the prices are way down and crowds are gone! It is due to Maui Fires a few years ago that were followed up by some serious marketing and image mistakes by Maui authorities. The island is as great as ever, but short term rental prices are less than half of what they used to be in 2020-2022...

My brother said the same thing about the food! It's on my list, for sure. We have a friend in Tokyo who's been asking us to visit Hawaii would be a perfect stop on the way there. Great to know about the reduced rental prices. Has the island fully recovered from those fires yet?

It depends what you mean by fully recovered. I would say that the island is not fully recovered in terms of tourist volumes or the short term rental prices, Airbnb prices for luxury waterfront condo rental are down from $500 a night to $200 a night and you can find some in Kahana that are in the $150 a night range for full waterfront. Tourist volumes are also half of those pre-fires and downtown Lahaina is basically empty nothing has been rebuilt there.

But there are other much better places to visit like: Wailea, Kanapali, Napili and even Kihei. The only thing that is not there is downtown Lahaina.

I mainly meant infrastructure-wise. That sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity to vacation there for less. My wife and I are seriously considering making it a stop on the way to Tokyo. It makes all the sense in the world.

I think the fact that you are asking about infrastructure is another testament to the failure of the news and Hawaii/Maui authorities to communicate the reality on the ground.

Infrastructure was restored pretty quickly, years ago, but people are still under impression that there are some issues with infrastructure. Media and authorities made it sound like a whole island burned down, but the reality is that it was just a small portion of a small historic downtown of a tiny town. And I am sorry about the people who died in the fire, but Maui sustained more economic and image damage from the negative PR that was the result of the Maui government actions in the wake of the fires...

There were some recent floods and one road in Kihei got damaged, but it is really nothing in the big picture of things. We traveled through Kihei a week after the floods and didn't even notice anything...

I'll have to check out the voucher shop. I just traded about half my vouchers for DEC the other day. I got tired of them sitting around doing nothing.

Then you might not have enough vouchers...

It is also tax time, so I should finish those this weekend.

This is exactly what I'm going to be working on this Friday so I can get it out of the way before the weekend.

This is a great time to accumulate SPS though...

Without handfuls of new players buying SPS to stake to their accounts, there's no good reason for SPS price to show any appreciation. While it is nice to be able to buy SPS at an apparent discount, I don't see much chance for price recovery. I will stick to earning SPS instead of buying it. I might even buy another 1000 Escalation packs as that seems like the best use of SPS these days.

When the next set of cards comes out there is going to be a pump in SPS price...

One can hope. It barely registered for Escalation. I think from .006 to .008 USD, which on paper is 33% gain. But it let the gains go within 6 weeks or less, I believe, and now we are down around 40% from that relative high.

Wow 😍 Love your vacation photos! Good to hear you guys enjoyed a wonderful vacation. I honestly need a break just about now. 😅 It's now too hot here and a beach visit would be ideal. Maybe next time 😅 sadly, I don't think the ceasefire happened at all. Seriously, I think those who enjoy waging wars should be the ones sent to the frontline. 😛

wishing you an advance happy weekend!
