“Older Than Dirt…..Man!”🐸
Can you count the “Rings” on this tree, go ahead Silvertop will wait …..Lol!😇
This tree had definitely been around a few years!😊
A Winter storm brought this tree down on the Gold Mine hiking Trail…………….
A while back my friend @silversaver888 was asking if we had any trees close to our house, she was concerned about one falling!😳
Take a look my friends……yep, that’s definitely a big tree!☺️
I asked Grok/Ara “AI” …. what determines if a tree is considered “old growth”?
“Silvertop, an old growth forest is generally considered having 200 to 300 year old trees depending on the species and the region!”😊
This tree you are looking at, using a math formula online, is approximately 509 years old!💪🤗
“Silbertop, dis tree older than you Lol!”🐸
“That’s absolutely correct my green friend!”
When we did the math, we discovered this tree was a seedling in 1517 AD! Just 25 years after Columbus discovered America in 1492!
Imagine that!😊
The formula goes like this………..
Measure up from the ground 54.5 inches…..
Then measure the circumference of the tree, and divide that by pi 3.1416
Once you get that number, you divide it by .05 to get how many years old the tree is!😇
Simple huh….. ☺️
Definitely an “old growth” western red cedar!👍😊
Centuries, and so much history has passed by, and this beautiful tree is still here, still standing tall!🤗
Thankfully the trees on the Gold Mine network of hiking trails are now protected………
If you look at the second and third last photos, you can see the damage done many years ago by loggers!
The deep cuts in this tree, were notched for steel cables, used to drag logs up hills!
Now days, when you pass these giant trees, instead of chain saws, you will hear only footsteps…………
I think it’s time for a hike my friends!
Be sure to enjoy the great outdoors!☺️
Till tomorrow Silvertop Mike 😊

An oldie but definitely a goodie!

Absolutely Liz!!🤗👍😀

I love huge, old trees like that, especially since I've rarely lived in areas where there were any old-growth forests. One of the most impressive species for me is the giant sequoia, Sequiiadendron giganteum, which I actually used to grow in New Jersey, and which can exceed 5,000 years in age! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
