RE: I Picked up Some New Stuff

in GEMS11 days ago

I used to use the local Freecycle group a lot years ago. Was good for things like bikes for the kids and I could pass them on too. I ought to check if there is still something like that, but I need to avoid accumulating more stuff :)

It's so handy for stuff like that, and I like the idea of giving things a new lease on life. I really don't like seeing things get wasted and dumped.

If I had the space, I would love to upcycle furniture, and I think for something like that, freebies pages would be perfect

I just saw that our council do sell some electrical items that have been thrown out, after they get tested. We also have a 'repair cafe' in the village a few times a year. I'm all for fixing things. We have bought furniture from charity shops.

That repair cafe is a cool idea, is that just for people to work on stuff, or is it for people to hand in broken electronics?

I take apart old broken electrical items that can't be fixed and keep the boards and compacitors in a box so I can use them as greeblies for models I make, I have a little collection of random things, even interesting looking bottle lids or whatever, that I think I can use

They have volunteers who can do different types of repair and see what people bring in. Some of it they can fix there and then, but others get taken away for more work.
