Vigorous walking, and movement in general, is very beneficial indeed, and for many reasons. The human body is meant to be used and moved well, and it suffers when it's not. It's funny, I've never tried to record my number of steps each day, but I've always been a fast walker, covering good distances in a short amount of time.
